Fall Honors Announced for High School Athletes

High school athletes are named to All-State lists. Riverkings approach the end of the regular season. Gormanson commits to Parkside.

Four high school athletes named to respective all-state lists.
Local athletes in the recent fall season earned All-State status in their respective sports.

Port Edwards had two members honored by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association in the 8-player ranks as they captured its first conference title since 2019.

Seniors, Brynden Beck and Max Michels were selected to the First Team as an Inside Linebacker, with Michels being an Honorable Mention as a Quarterback.

After winning its first conference title since 2001, and Regional title since 1998, the Nekoosa Volleyball senior, Samya Hughes, was selected to the Division 3 Honorable Mention by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association.

Hughes concluded her career with 1,245 kills, 1,074 Digs, and 197 Aces.

Assumption junior, Lucy Dolan, reached the Division 3 podium for the third time in her career as she placed fifth at the WIAA Division 3 race on Nov. 2 at the Ridges Golf Course.

She was a selection to the Second Team for the third time by the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association. She finished the course in 19-minutes, 3.4-seconds.

Riverkings crush Kernels

The win streak moved to four, for the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings as they dominated Battle Creek over December 13 and 14.

Rapids won with scores of 12-1 and 11-2, as they out shot the Kernels 130-37 between both contests.

The Riverkings close out the 2024 calendar with its final games of the regular season. They play Hudson on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21 and 22.

Rapids defeated the Havoc in both of the earlier games they played this season by tallies of 3-0, 12-0.

Gormanson commits to UW-Parkside

Wisconsin Rapids senior, Tanner Gormanson, made his future clear when he committed to wrestling collegiately at Division-II, University of Wisconsin- Parkside. He signed on Monday afternoon, December 16, at the Performing Arts Center at Lincoln High School.

Gormanson, the son of Montana and Jen, serves as the Raiders’ 285-pound wrestler. He’s competed at the varsity level through most of his career. Gormanson was a state qualifier for the 2024 WIAA Division 1 Individual State Tournament.

Tanner plans on studying Business Administration while at Parkside.
