New vendors and a focus on accessibility will make the market more vibrant than ever as it opens for the 53rd year
A new season of the Dane County Farmers’ Market is set to kick off Saturday, April 12. The colorful farm-fresh shopping tradition circles the Capitol Square in Madison and typically welcomes thousands of visitors every week. It’s also celebrating the 53rd year as the country’s largest producers-only market. But don’t think it means there won’t be new offerings this season.
The Dane County Farmers’ Market will host its weekly Saturday Market on the Square from 6:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. It opens on April 12 and runs through Saturday, November 8, 2025

Eight additional vendors, including honey producers, a bakery, and a ginseng grower are being added to the more than 200 spots available for the regulars bringing a bounty of vegetables, flowers, meats, cheeses, and specialty products. Market Manager Jamie Bugel describes the vibe as a wonderful blend of old and new.
“The market is mindful of balancing new vendors and regulars, while aiming to keep attendance manageable while still fostering growth,” Bugel explains. “All of the items for sale are grown, raised, and produced in Wisconsin by the person behind the stand.”
And shoppers can look forward to early-season produce like hearty greens, fresh-baked bread, eggs, cheese, and even plants — perfect for home gardeners looking to get a head start on their own efforts.
There’s also pride in the market’s focus on accessibility, with parking and SNAP benefits designed to make the market as welcoming as possible. And with Double Dollars, $20 in SNAP benefits now gets you $40 in purchasing power, making it easier for more customers to shop locally. And shopping at the market doesn’t come with a hefty price tag, even with rising grocery prices.
“For quality and location and just being able to support those in your community, there’s no better bang for your buck than the Dane County Farmers’ Market,” Bugel says.
The market is a vital hub for local food and community connections, proving that fresh produce and a friendly face are some of the best things in life, especially when its right around the corner.
