WISCONSIN (CIVIC MEDIA) – The GOP-controlled U.S. House of Representatives approved the “Big Beautiful Bill” by a narrow 218-214 vote on Thursday, propelling President Trump’s sweeping tax and immigration package past the final stage of congressional approval.

The package will now land on President Trump’s desk. Two Republican U.S. congressmen – Thomas Massie of Kentucky, and Brian Fitzgerald of Pennsylvania – joined their Democratic colleagues in a “no” vote.

Wisconsin’s congressional delegation cast votes along party lines, with the state’s six Republican representatives –  Bryan Steil, Derrick Van Orden, Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Tiffany and Tony Wied – voting yes.

Wisconsin’s two Democratic representatives, Mark Pocan and Gwen Moore, voted no.

Wisconsin’s House delegation, as well as U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, made their voices heard following the package’s passing, with state Democrats denouncing the impact the bill will have on healthcare and social services, and Republicans celebrating the effect the legislation will have on immigration and taxes.

Senator Tammy Baldwin

“They chose to gut Medicaid, decimate our rural hospitals, and terminate health care for 17 million Americans – including more than 250,000 Wisconsinites. They chose to take food from hungry families and raise the cost of going to the grocery store for millions more. These are choices that Donald Trump and Republicans made because they wanted to rig our tax code for big corporations and the wealthiest in our country,” Baldwin said in a statement

Gwen Moore

“This bill will gut funding for nursing homes, reproductive health care, health care for children, seniors, and people with disabilities while taking food out of the mouths of everyday Americans struggling to get by. This legislation even strips away SNAP benefits for veterans, foster youth, and homeless Americans, something I actively fought against and raised with House leadership. There is truly no bottom to this bill’s cruelty,” said  Moore in a statement

Mark Pocan

“Today, Congressional Republicans put their billionaire donors ahead of their constituents. And now, millions of Americans across the country will suffer just so the richest Americans can get even richer. The numbers don’t lie: this cruel legislation will rip healthcare away from 17 million people, threaten food assistance for millions of Americans, increase household energy costs, and add trillions to the national debt, all to give a massive tax break to the wealthy. In Wisconsin alone, this bill could terminate the healthcare of over 270,000 people, reduce or eliminate food assistance for at least 49,000 Wisconsinites, threaten to close rural hospitals, and cause as many as one in four nursing homes to shut down. There’s a reason why this bill is polling badly. Congressional Republicans are having a hard time convincing everyday people that it will help them, because it won’t,” Pocan shared in a statement.

Derrick Van Orden

“This bill is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Americans – our seniors, veterans, families, farmers, manufacturers, and most vulnerable populations. My Democrat colleagues have been fearmongering and pushing blatant lies from day one, and that ends now. When this beautiful bill reaches President Trump’s desk, Americans will see their taxes go down, wages go up, and integrity and stability restored in critical programs like SNAP and Medicaid. This is what delivering real results for the people I represent looks like and what 77 million Americans and 1.7 Wisconsinites voted for,” Van Orden remarked in a post on X.

Scott Fitzgerald

“Just in time for the Fourth of July, we’re sending the final version of the One Big Beautiful Bill to President Trump’s desk and delivering on the conservative agenda we promised the American people. This bill is a major win for working families. It delivers historic tax relief by boosting take-home pay, making the Trump Tax Cuts permanent, giving seniors eligible for Social Security tax relief, increasing the child tax credit, and protecting family farms from the death tax. By eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, it also ensures workers keep more of what they earn.

“It also restores integrity to Medicaid by ending fraud and abuse—protecting benefits for the most vulnerable. It also fully funds President Trump’s border wall and increases staffing for ICE and Border Patrol. This helps restore law and order at our southern border and keeps our communities safe. From putting more money in the pockets of hard-working Americans to making our national security a top priority, this legislation puts the needs of Americans first. I’m proud to have supported it from the start and look forward to President Trump signing it into law,” Fitzgerald saidd in a statement.

Bryan Steil

“This bill is a win for Wisconsin workers, families, and seniors. The bill prioritizes American families over illegal immigrants, delivers a $6,000 tax cut for seniors, implements work requirements for able-bodied adults, invests in securing our border, and encourages and rewards hard work with no tax on tips or overtime. We saved American taxpayers more than $1 trillion and did so while protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits for our seniors and strengthening Medicaid for vulnerable Americans. I look forward to President Trump signing this legislation into law,” Steil said in a post on X.

Glenn Grothman

“House Republicans just PASSED the One Big Beautiful Bill, blocking massive tax hikes and delivering real relief for hardworking Americans. We promised to fight for you, and we delivered. I’m proud to stand with President Trump and House Republicans to put America First and protect your hard-earned money,” Grothman said in a post on X.

Tom Tiffany

“The top priorities going into this election were clear: secure the border and deliver relief to hardworking families. The OBBB keeps those promises. We can’t reverse four years of damage with a single bill, but this is a strong first step toward a better future,” Tiffany remarked in a post on X.

Tony Wied

“The One Big Beautiful Bill has PASSED. This is a historic win for hardworking Americans all across our nation,” Wied shared in a post on X
