RIPON, Wis. (WRPN/WAUH)-Severe storms with high winds and heavy rain pounded the area Wednesday afternoon depositing 1 to 6 inches or more of rain in some parts of Wisconsin.
Wautoma Police Chief Paul Mott says the City of Wautoma was placed under a tornado warning at 3 pm, but no damage was reported. The city did receive about 4.5 inches of rain in under an hour and a half.
Roads flooded. Wautoma Police closed State Highways 21 and 73 due to flooding. Multiple vehicles stalled out in the floodwaters, some up to their rooftop. The flooding also washed out parts of a highway. Roads were reopened just after 5 pm.
Wautoma Fire Chief Josh Grenier said this was the worst flooding he has seen since 2001.
Elsewhere, tornadoes were spotted on the ground in Dane, Sauk, and Dodge Counties. In Dodge County funnel clouds were seen 3 miles south of Waupun and near the Horicon/Iron Ridge area.
